1949 family reunion

The Hartley family reunions started in the 1930's when the majority of the cousins in the family were very young. My mother was about five years old in the first reunion photo taken in 1938, in this photo she is one of the teenagers standing behind the adults who are seated. The reunions continued every year, with the last yearly reunion held in the year 2000. Since then, only a few small gatherings have taken place.

The Hartley Family Organization was unofficially started in 1938 when a family reunion was held for all the descendants of George and Rebecca [nee Richards] Hartley. A photograph was taken at the reunion. My mother was five years old when she attended this reunion. Although the reunions are not held every year like they used to be, the family still enjoys getting together every few years. All the older generation are gone now, so many who come to reunions today don't know each other. Through this blog maybe the family ties will be rekindled through the sharing of old times and those great family stories!
